The past decade has created unprecedented As many communities throughout our state have benefited, Sutter County has been left behind for the most part. As a result, we've fallen behind our neighboring counties - and the rest of our state - in economic opportunity and prosperity. This is not just about numbers - falling behind our neighbors has created real consequences. Many residents who have been a part of Sutter County for many generations have seen their children move away to pursue opportunities that just don't exist in our community. Our county will lose its heritage unless we increase the number of jobs and create opportunities for this generation and the next. To help Sutter County catch up by generating new job opportunities and growth for our residents, voters overwhelmingly passed Measure M (see box below for more details) nearly two years ago, which established a vision for our county's future. Since Measure M's passage, a diverse group of stakeholders including landowners and builders have worked closely with the community and the Board of Supervisors to create a plan that will bring that vision to life. Our plan, called Sutter Pointe, has been carefully designed to create a balanced mix of jobs, homes, schools and public facilities, education and job training, parks and open space, retail opportunities, and recreational amenities. Sutter Pointe will generate incredible opportunities for families in our community, and will establish one of the most active job centers in the region. By creating new opportunities for local families, we can protect Sutter County's heritage and provide a bright future for generations to come. ![]() Measure M In November of 2004, Sutter County voted on an advisory measure to give the Board of Supervisors direction on the future of our County. Measure M, as the advisory measure was known, was a landmark election for our County. Passed by a 59% to 40% margin, Measure M provided a roadmap for bringing jobs and commerce to Sutter County by carefully planning for growth on the 7,500 acres designated by the Board of Supervisors as the "South Sutter County Industrial and Commercial Area". |
